Onions still on top after Fyfe?s last-gasp winner

MR Onions will go into the Christmas break still top the Commercial A Division after a gritty 3-2 victory over PHC in a match which saw the winner arrive in the dying minutes.

Onions took the lead after Steve Ludgate got on the end of a goalmouth scramble but PHC equalised near the end of the first half through a disputed penalty converted by ex-pro Kyle Lightbourne.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, PHC used the long ball. A Keith Bell cross looked to be floating harmlessly over the back post but the strong wind pushed it against the woodwork and over the line.

This appeared to rouse Onions and they began to play more controlled football. As PHC tired, the division leaders created more chances, Nick Briggs taking advantage of a cross from the left that was not cleared. The bouncing ball finally hit the back of the net after a number of missed opportunities by PHC defenders to clear.

The winner came from a move down the right by Onions. As play was switched quickly to the left, Gary Fyfe took the ball into the box and fired into the far corner to secure all three points.

Lobster Pot moved into second spot after a 2-1 triumph over Tuff Dogs.

Pot scored in the first minute with a defender putting Saleem Mukkadem?s shot into his own net and then went 2 -0 up with a Dave Allison tap-in.

Tuff Dogs scored a consolation goal but most of the remaining minutes were played in their half of the pitch.

Key West slipped to third, sharing the points in a 3-3 draw with North Village after conceding two goals in the last ten minutes.

Armel Thomas, Steven Mendes and Ricky Mallory had put Key West in pole position after an earlier goal by Village?s Stephen Coddington before Ross Lambe and Kenneth Bartram grabbed a point for Village who are now fourth.

Robin Hood benefited from a Preston Mallory own goal to grab victory. Brian Fubler had put Hood ahead after three minutes only for Carter Smith to level in the 67th minute before his team-mate handed Hood all three points with 15 minutes remaining.

BAA are level on points with the Hood after a 9-1 drubbing of eight-man Somerset Bridge Peskies. Gary Wilson helped himself to a hat-trick, Gary Stewart and Martin Jones got two each while Bradley James and Gary Black also found the net. BAA substitute Ian Friedman was sent off for swearing at the referee.

Dandy Town Roots recorded their 100th goal of the campaign in their 8-1 defeat of Boulevard in the B Division.

Roots were 3-0 up within the opening 15 minutes. Sean Smith, combining well with Walter Musson, scored two of the opening three and also forced Boulevard?s Jack Henderson to put through his own net.

Smith completed a first half hat-trick in fine style, working one-twos with Calvin Blakendal from within the Roots half in a move which ended with Blakendal back-heeling perfectly into Smith?s path to stroke the ball home.

Smith then turned provider as Musson found the net. But the final ten minutes of the half saw Roots ease off, allowing Boulevard to pull a goal back through Cleveland Rogers.

In the second half Roots added further goals by Thomas Raynor and Michael Wells who got two, his second marking Roots? 100th of the current campaign.

St. George?s crushed Wolves 8-0 with Lionel Cann helping himself to his seventh hat-trick of the season. Beekus Denbrook and Cal Raynor netted two each and Eugene Crockwell one.

Vasco Mariners hammered Prospect/Fire 14-0. Mike Bean slammed four, Paul Frias three and Jason DeCouto two. Other team-mates piling in were Andrew Bento, Joe Cunha, Martin DeMoura, Stefan Metschnabel and Dana Martin.

An improving Pest Control drew 1-1 with Dockyard Falcons with Jamie Matthews? 31st minute strike being cancelled out by Kwase Hollis for Falcons three minutes later.

Hamilton Parish won the battle of the walking wounded against Somerset Extros, 4-3. Both teams finished the game with just eight fit men each.

Extros? Mike Corday was one of those who took a knock but also netted two goals alongside team-mate Shaun Roberts but an Irving Burgess hat-trick and a Elton Caisey strike edged Parish ahead.

Prison Officers beat Devonshire All-Stars by default. Both teams showed up short-handed but at least Prison Officers remembered to bring their gear.
