Parfitt hails Bermuda victory

Bermuda?s victorious national cricket team that recently clinched a first Americas Championship in Toronto received blessings yesterday from Clarence Parfitt, arguably the Island?s best bowler of all-time.

Parfitt applauded the brilliant manner in which Bermuda rebounded from a resounding nine-wicket defeat against Canada in the ICC Intercontinental Cup to go on and savour Americas glory.

?I thought the players stood up quite well and fought quite good,? said Parfitt, speaking from Scotland yesterday. ?I thought Bermuda done well batting, although I still think they have to work a bit more on their bowling

?The guys are beginning to score 50s and 60s more consistently, but they must learn how to stay in there. And I still think that one of the team?s weaknesses is that they haven?t found an opening batsman yet.

?They just keep chopping and changing and they don?t really have that much time left to find a settled pair.?

Parfitt also took great pleasure in Bermuda?s convincing victories over Canada at the Toronto Cricket Club and Maple Leaf CC located at the rural King City.

?It was just a matter of getting the boys to start believing in themselves, and that?s exactly what they are now beginning to do,? he said.

?To beat Canada is a great thing and hopefully the guys will be able to build on that achievement and move on because people are beginning to take notice of Bermuda?s achievement all over the world.

?And it?s nice to see good things happening for Bermuda who must now continue to keep pushing forward and putting in the necessary hard work.?

When asked to share his thoughts on St.George?s? convincing Cup Match win over rivals Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club earlier this month, Parfitt replied: ?A piece of cake.?

Meanwhile, former West Indies fast bowler Colin Croft also applauded Bermuda?s latest achievement on the world stage.

?I am glad the guys did well in Toronto. They needed some long cricket, and their confidence should be up,? he said yesterday from the Caribbean.
