Pearman first in Mini-Tour tourney

Ocean View golf pro Dwayne Pearman warmed up for September?s Canadian Tour qualifying bid by clinching a Moonlight Mini- Tour 18-hole event held at Grenelefe South Golf Club in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.

The 43-year-old Bermudian shot a one-under-par 70 to win the tournament by a single shot over Florida resident Jay McNair who finished in a three-way tie with compatriot Scott Pierangelo and Japan?s Take Koyama.

Pearman carded four birdies during his round, but nearly let it all slip away on the par three 16th and 17th holes where he dropped two shots.

?It was just one of those things. I just missed the green on the 16th and ended up a little bit in the rough,? the veteran golfer recalled.

Pearman then missed what should have been an easy putt after chipping to within four feet of the cup from the rough before going on to make another bogey on the penultimate hole.

Overall, though, Pearman said he was pleased with the day?s performance and winning his first championship since February.

?I was actually a bit surprised because I haven?t really played any rounds since February,? he told .

?I thought I really hit the ball well and putted well on greens that were flawless.?

With no local tournament play scheduled in the near future, Pearman intends to keep in shape by competing in a ?few more? Moonlight Mini-Tour events over the summer months in Florida.

?I think I will actually play in as many as I can in order to keep myself competitive and maybe just jump into a Nationwide (Tour) qualifier or something like that,? he said.

?It?s important I keep playing in order to keep my touch and the more you play the stronger you get. Playing competitive golf helps your mental game to improve and so the more you play the better it is.?
