Newly crowned First Division champions PHC moved a step closer to adding the First Division Knockout Cup to their trophy cabinet with a three-wicket win over Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field on Sunday.

Spearheading PHC's latest triumph was skipper Cal Waldron who led by example, ripping through Bridge's batting order, grabbing four wickets along the way for a stingy 17 runs and then returning to the crease to stroke a patient 27 which included just two fours.

Ellsworth Bean chipped in with an equally patient 22 that contained one four.

Tacouma Robinson was the pick of Bridge's bowling, seizing three wickets for 23 runs, while Denzil Dill grabbed two for 35.

Corvette Lambert and Dean Stevens each also managed a scalp.

Bridge also lightened their tenant's burden, generously yielding 31 runs to their cause.

Earlier, Stevens (51) topped Bridge's batting by blasting his way to a deserved half century in a match reduced to 45 overs, as yet again, they were late turning the field over to the umpires.

One of this season's most improved all-rounders cracked five fours and two sixes. Nakia Smith's contributed 14 runs and PHC were also in a giving mood helping Bridge to 31 extras.

Also assisting in Bridge's demise were Neil Anglin who snatched three wickets for just 14 runs off nine overs, including one maiden, while Charles Symonds, player/coach Andre (Doc) Manders, and Gerald Simons all had one wicket apiece.

Warwick 88, Police 91-2

Nine-man Warwick paid dearly for their shortage on Sunday when Police soundly defeated them by eight wickets in their First Division Knockout clash at Police field.

Robert Richardson was the only Warwick batsman in double figures with 13, the remainder falling to one of the four Police bowlers used. Dennis Archer was the best of the bowlers with three for 25 off ten overs

The game between Devonshire Rec. and Willow Cuts was postponed following the death of Devonshire's Corey Smith. SPage One.
