Sullivan Phillips top-scored for the Birmingham Bullets as their European adventure continued with a 59-49 triumph over Swiss league leaders Fribourg in the FIBA Champions Cup.

The Bermudian basketball star scored 17 points, had seven rebounds, five steals and six assists to secure Birmingham's third straight victory in the competition on Tuesday night.

The Bullets now sit joint top of Western Conference Group A, level on seven points with Tenerife.

The team had seen a ten point lead whittled down to 34-28 at the half in the third period their scoring slowed still further with Phillips netting all of their nine points.

The Swiss team took advantage of the situation to take the lead but it was shortlived with Phillips hitting the basket at just the right time.

Signed from the US college league in the summer, Phillips has proved to be a sound acquisition by Birmingham coach Tony Garbelotto and he was full of praise for the Bermudian following Tuesday night's victory.

"Sullivan Phillips was everywhere," he said. "He threw up a few wild shots but I don't mind that because of everything else he did.

"He saved four or five balls, shut people down - he's making things happen for us at the moment."

Meanwhile, fellow Bermudian David Patrick is on the bench for Chester Jets' British Basketball League Trophy match against the Leicester Riders on Saturday.

Patrick joined Phillips' league rivals recently after leaving the Canberra Cannons of the Australian league.

If the Jets win this game they will set a new Trophy record. At present, they have won 14 games in a row in the competition, a mark they share with the Manchester Giants.

The last time the Jets lost a game in the Trophy was November 2000.

The signs are good - Chester have won six of the nine BBL Trophy games played against Leicester, including all three played on Riders' home floor.
