Psychological victory for Island players
Bermuda's squash team scored a psychological victory over their rivals before they even took to the courts yesterday when Gary Plumstead and Nick Kyme were seeded one and two respectively at the Caribbean Championships.
The Island's best players are in Barbados taking on the best in the region at the 14th Mount Gay CASA tournament which is being held at Barbados Squash Club's Marine House courts.
The individual competition began yesterday and several Island players saw action.
Plumstead took on Ryan Abrahams from Trinidad and Tobago and dropped just two points on his way to a 9-1, 9-1, 9-0 victory.
Sam Stevens then played Barbados' No.1, Gavin Cumberbatch and won the first game 9-4. However, he could not keep up the tempo and lost the next three 9-3, 9-2, 9-2.
Kyme was next on court, this time against Alex Kassab of Venezuela and won 9-1, 9-1, 9-2.
James Stout then went down to a somewhat surprising defeat at the hands of Hernan Marino of Venezuela. He won the first game 9-4 but that was as good as it got and he lost the next three 9-4, 9-6, 9-2.
Bermuda's remaining player, Tommy Sherratt, was playing in the late game last night against Gabby Rabesse of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and the result was not through at press time.
