Rain stops hockey
A rain-soaked pitch which led to the postponement of all last Sunday's hockey games made for a quiet weekend in the league.
Canaries and Bluebirds squared off twice on Saturday - in both A and B league games - with Canaries taking away two key victories.
Canaries A 3 Bluebirds A 0
Mary Ellen Jackson carried on from a strong performance the previous week by giving Canaries an early lead against Bluebirds.
Jackson followed an initial shot on goal and put the rebound beyond the reach of the Bluebirds' keeper.
Canaries kept the pressure on and were awarded numerous short corners for their efforts, but sent most of the resulting shots wide of the target.
Lisa DeSilva performed well for Canaries as she continually dribbled past three and four defenders, eventually picking up a hit from Michelle Ming to crack home the second goal.
Jackson sealed the Blues' fate with a difficult angled shot at goal which flew past the 'keeper to cement a 3-0 victory.
Canaries B 2 Bluebirds B 1
The first half of the 'B' game was fairly uneventful and the teams went to the break locked at 0-0 despite both sides having had numerous opportunities on goal.
Early in the second half, however, Bluebirds showed renewed energy. The Blues made good use of an attacking break to take the lead.
But Canaries levelled shortly after when Joanna Stapff found space to score.
And it was Canaries who continued to force the pace before being awarded a penalty which was converted by Nelleke Hollis to seal the win.
MEN'S LEAGUE
Rebels 3 Polecats 0
In the only game played in the Men's league, Rebels defeated Police Polecats 3-0. Simon Van De Weg scored the only goal of the first-half but after the break Rebels began moving the ball around more effectively.
Donny Moniz and Kirk Edmunds added two more goals to secure the win.
In order to stay in the race for the league title with undefeated Chameleons, Rebels must now win all their remaining games of the season.
