Round the Island race rescheduled
Stormy waters forced the postponement of yesterday?s Round the Island race, but organisers are hoping the powerboat and jet ski spectacular will go ahead this weekend ? weather permitting.
A decision to call off the event, which claimed the life of New Zealander Stuart Smith in 2002, was made at noon on Saturday, robbing the 13 boats of a chance to compete.
But Bermuda Powerboat Association President Robert DeCosta told it would go ahead this weekend instead.
?We are going to get it on, on Sunday,? said DeCosta.
?It is really going to have to be blowing a gale to make us move it again.?
Last year saw Ricky Sousa and Scott Johnson power their S Class entry first across the finish line at Ferry Reach to savour a maiden win in the annual showpiece after a closely-contested 46-mile circumnavigation.
