Sick Sims forced to withdraw
Pro golfer Michael Sims withdrew from his third South American Tour event after one round because of illness.
Playing in the Peru Open, the Bermudian was sidelined by diarrhoea and vomiting and took no further part after carding four-over-par on the opening day at Los Incase Golf Club in Lima last Thursday.
Sims' mother Carol told The Royal Gazette that the 25-year-old "wasn't feeling well for the first round and then it got worse and worse".
Apparently, her son wasn't the only one of the 143 competitors who succumbed to such symptoms as six other golfers also retired from the tournament after just 18 holes.
The Island's top golfer started poorly in his lone round, registering a double bogey on the first hole and a bogey on the second to be three-over after just two holes. By the turn, he had pulled it back to two-over but four bogeys and two birdies on the back nine left him on four-over as he entered the clubhouse.
Ultimately, however, it didn't matter as Sims, who was scheduled to return to the USA last night, became sick.
