Former champion Penny Simmons placed second at the International One Design World Championships held off New London, Connecticut in the waters of Fishers Island Sound last week.

A seventh place finish in the final race cemented Simmons? position behind local competitor Kevin Farrar who was representing the Fishers Island Yacht Club.

Competing throughout the week against 15 other boats, Simmons picked up two firsts, a second, two sixths and two sevenths.

Each boat was allowed one drop allowing Simmons a score of 23 to Farrar?s 19.

Bill Widnall of Marblehead, Massachusetts, another former winner, placed third overall.

Richard Pearce of San Francisco and John McNamara of Darien, Connecticut were fourth and fifth respectively.
