Sims slips back in final round
Michael Sims finished 27th overall with a four-under-par total at the Medell?n Open in Colombia yesterday.
Heading into the final round the Bermudian pro was eight shots off the lead ? in joint 23rd place after three rounds ? but was unable to make any headway as he carded a even-par 72 yesterday in his final 18 holes of the Tour De Las Americas event. He picked up a cheque for $530.
Sims opened with rounds of 71 and 70 and followed that on Saturday with another 71 on the par-72 course. Those tallies left him at four under, a position he shared with Geoffry Schacher of Honduras.
Andres Romero of Argentina won the tournament with 19-under ($9,000) ? a shot ahead of Venezuelan Carlos Larrain ($5,700).
Sims is 51st on the Order of Merit, having played four tournaments which have earned him $1,044.
Last week he finished joint 18th after the final round of the Bancolombia American Express tournament in Bogota, Colombia.
Nigel Paul and Jenny Chattock combined to lift the Bermuda Mixed Foursomes Championships at Port Royal yesterday following a two-over par round of 73.
Paul and Chattock had entered the second day of the 36-hole tournament trailing leaders Dave Allison and Susie Elton by a single shot after a first round of 80.
But Allison and Elton followed their opening day 79 with a round of 75 to lose by one stroke.
Third place went to Leroy Burch and Katyna Rabain (157) after rounds of 80 and 77.
The net title also went to Paul and Chattock with a 36-hole score of 141 (74-67).
Runners-up were David Haigh and Maggie McCorkell (143) with Winston Robinson and Cindy Hardart (also 143) in third place on retrogression.
The tournament is traditionally played in September but was postponed this year following damage inflicted by Hurricane Fabian.
