Patrick Singleton is going to Torino.

The Bermudian skeleton star slid his way to a spot in the Winter Olympics with a fourth-place finish in a qualifying event in Germany yesterday.

The slider, whose shorts worn at the opening ceremony in the last Games are hanging in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, will get his shot at a medal next month after breezing through the qualifying event in Konigsee, Germany, during two days racing over the weekend.

Singleton was sitting in sixth place after Saturday?s two runs, needing to seal a place in the top eight among eligible qualifiers to punch his ticket to Italy.

The Bermudian finished behind a Croatian, a South African and an Irishman in the qualifying event for the Games, for which athletes from the major winter Olympic nations had already earned their places.

Singleton has now qualified for his third Winter Games, with the Torino event beginning in just two weeks? time.

?The achievement hasn?t really sunk in yet,? he said last night from Innsbruck in Austria where he is currently holed up in a snow storm.

?I usually deal with pressure reasonably well but I felt incredibly nervous beforehand knowing what was at stake.

?I didn?t sleep very well the night before and I was a bit of wreck in the hours leading up to the competition.

?My coaches and I decided to be conservative and not gamble everything for the win. Over the two days it was very difficult because of the terrible weather but luckily everything worked out. I?m incredibly happy.?

He will now travel to St. Moritz, Switzerland, for the final Europa Cup event before the Games.

Nikola Nimac, Tyler Botha and David Connolly finished ahead of Singleton, who was two seconds behind the then leader Connolly after Saturday?s competition.
