Smith and Wright on double duty
It promises to be a busy morning for runners Kavin Smith and Tracy Wright on Sunday with both men on two of the favourite teams scheduled to race in the Bank of Bermuda Team Triathlon.
The two top athletes will first have to run a 7.2-mile cross-country time trial at 9.00 a.m. in the Arboretum, scheduled by BTFA national coach Gerry Swan just 30 minutes before the start of the triathlon.
All being well, a quick run to Albouy's Point after that work-out should get them to the triathlon transition area just in time to see their cyclists on the final stages of the cycle leg, before they will again be thrust into action for a six-mile run.
Smith yesterday played down the conflict with a broad grin, saying: "It's unfortunate that both events are on the same day, but I figure 40 minutes for the cross country run, straight into Hamilton, and I should be well warmed up for the run leg of the triathlon."
When asked about managing both events, Wright appeared less prepared when he said: "Oh, they are on the same weekend? I thought the individual triathlon was this weekend.
"That's okay, we have been doing workouts like that, we will make it in time. I guess at least we will have both done the same thing before the triathlon."
However, with both runners' team-mates expected to be out of the water in the front group in around 20 minutes and the fastest cyclists under 40 minutes, there could be some nervous teams waiting by the transition area come Sunday morning.
