Softball chiefs to meet

Softball bosses will meet today to formulate a public statement, a day after The Royal Gazette revealed that members of the women's national squad were believed to have failed drugs tests.

As many as three players were thought to have been axed from the squad, chosen to play in the Pan American Softball Championships in Venezuela last week, after they took the mandatory test.

Dean Williams, director of Bermuda Amateur Softball Association, said yesterday: "The executive of the BASA will be meeting tomorrow (today) to discuss the events of the last couple of days. Then we will give a press release.

"At this point, not many of us know the details of what's been going on and many people are in the dark.

"We will get together the proper information, so we can make an informed statement."

Williams added that he did not know whether the statement would be released today.
