Hosts St. David's made short work of PHC in yesterday's Premier Division game at Lord's, beating the visitors convincingly by eight wickets.

The East Enders had an unlikely bowling hero with top batsman Glenn Blakeney snatching five wickets for 46 with two maidens in his 10 overs of spin.

Others chipping in with wickets were Delyone Borden who took three for 28 off 10 overs and skipper Clay Smith, who grabbed two for a mere three runs off 3.5 overs, including two maidens.

Newly-promoted PHC were unable to cope with the spin of Blakeney and Smith, the pair spearheading the attack with seamer Borden after opening bowlers Mackie Crane and Arthur Pitcher had enjoyed little success.

Skipper Cal Waldron was the only PHC bat to offer any real resistance as he remained at the crease on 51 not out with all of his partners dismissed. Three others reached double figures with opener Arthur Richards scoring 15, Kenny Mills 11 and Gordon Anglin 10.

St. David's coasted to victory as hard-hitting Lionel Cann, promoted to open the innings with Borden, struck 52, including two sixes and eight fours.

With a seemingly easy winning target, skipper Clay Smith took the opportunity to alter his batting line-up, promoting 16-year-olds Justin Pitcher and Ajun Lambe up the order.

Both youngsters were still at the crease when victory was reached, Pitcher not out on 42 and Lambe undefeated on 22.

Neil Anglin grabbed the two wickets for PHC at a cost of 24 after bowling six overs with two maidens.
