Willow Cuts 134 Western Stars 135/5

Inspired by fine performances by young Anthony Hayward and Jermaine Postlethwaite, Western Stars yesterday scored their second straight victory of the young season with this five-wicket triumph at Somerset CC.

Willow Cuts lost two early wickets to newcomer Rashan Perera with just 16 runs on the board and struggled to recover, although some stability came in the form of a 45-run third wicket stand between Dexter Basden (31) and Cordell Gilbert (20).

But once that ended Stars bowlers, led by Hayward who snatched three wickets for 33 off ten overs, were able to dominate.

Of the remaining batsmen resistance came from Mike Corday on 14, Trevor Forth with 12 and tailender Charles Swan with 16 not out.

Perera was the second best bowler for Stars finishing with two for 27 off seven overs.

Stars required just 29.1 overs to reach their winning target of 135, opener Postlethwaite leading the way with 57 while Gershon Gibbons followed on 37, skipper Albert Steede on 18 and Dennis Archer not out on ten.
