Steede's marathon century gives Islanders third trophy
St. David's 325-6
Cleveland 169-7
Albert Steede scored a marathon 176 at Lord's on Saturday to ensure that St. David's will keep the Eastern Counties Cup until next season.
Opener Steede struck 18 fours and three sixes on his way to the second highest score in Eastern Counties history, only bettered by Noel Gibbons' 185 back in 1983.
The match ended in a draw, to give St. David's their third trophy of a tremendous season, after they won the league title for the first time in the modern era and took the Camel Cup by beating Western Stars early in the season.
Steede and Phillip (Billy Joe) Pitcher put on 131 for the first wicket as the champions batted first and put the match way out of Cleveland's reach.
Pitcher made 61 and their opening stand was followed by another century partnership, Steede teaming up with O.J. Pitcher, who scored 37, to put on 104 and take the score to 235 for two.
Clay Smith contributed an unbeaten 20 as the east enders made 325 for six and used up 76 overs.
Johnny Richardson was the pick of the Cleveland bowlers, taking four for 79 in 13 overs, as most of his colleagues toiled without reward.
Cleveland were never in the hunt for victory, particularly after losing their first five wickets for 84, but they did manage to hold out for a draw, finishing on 169 for seven.
Richardson excelled with the bat as he had done the ball, scoring an unbeaten 33, but Hasan Durham was top scorer with a brisk 42. Allan Douglas made 31.
Herbie Bascome was the most successful of the Islanders' attack, removing both Cleveland openers in a lively opening spell and finishing with figures of three for 33 from 11 overs.

On a day of 529 runs, batsmen were dominant and Andre Manders had set the tone with a fine 96 for PHC before he was run out just one boundary short of his century.
Number 10 batsman E. Williams helped to boost the total to 264-9 with a brisk 38 not out.
St. David's pace bowler George O'Brien was the most successful bowler, taking three for 47 from 10 overs.
Devonshire Rec. 166
St. George's 168-3
St. George's bowler Kameron Fox ripped through the nine-man Devonshire batting line-up to set up a comfortable seven-wicket Premier League victory for the east enders.
Fox took five for 34 from 8.4 overs and Trevor Smith chipped in with two for 32 as Devonshire struggled to a total of 166 at Wellington Oval.
Devonshire's total was built around a splendid knock of 67 off 75 balls by Ricky Brangman, who hit six fours and three sixes, and opener Wendell Swan's 42.
St. George's openers Detroy Smith (38) and Sinclair Gibbons (21) got the home side off to a solid start with an opening stand of 63.
Ryan Steede saw St. George's home with an unbeaten 69 off just 44 balls, including 12 fours and a six.
