Top UK official to ref cup final
A top British football referee will take charge of next month's Martonmere Cup final when he visits the Island to also conduct a referees' clinic.
Ray Olivier, the Football Association's Regional Manager for Referees, is scheduled to arrive in Bermuda on November 9 and two days' later will hold a seminar for local refs when discussion will be primarily on Law 11 which defines the offside rule and also on cooperation between referees and linesmen (now known as referees' assistants).
Forty three year-old Olivier will then officiate at the cup final between Devonshire Cougars and North Village on Monday, November 12, with Anthony Mouchette and Gregory Simons as his assistants.
Olivier has officiated at a number of top matches in England, including the FA Trophy Final in 1996, the GM Vauxhall Conference Spalding Cup Final in 1997 as well as under-21 and 'B' internationals.
Bermuda Football Association announced yesterday they had signed a contract with Canadian sportswear company, Locust, to provide custom-made kit for the Island's various national teams.
The BFA will also be selling the shirts and shorts to the public and Manchester City's Bermudian striker Sean Goater will reportedly be helping to market the new kit, having been asked by several fans in England whether they could buy Bermuda's national team jersey with his name on it.
BFA president Larry Mussenden noted that Locust were also interested in providing kit for the Island's club sides.
