Dandy Town 3 Boulevard 0

It may not have been pretty, but in the end the performance was enough for Dandy Town to see off a spirited challenge from Boulevard in this FA Cup quarter-final at St. John's Field yesterday.

Two goals from Seyoum Tuzo and a typically opportunistic third from the ubiquitous Janeiro Tucker proved too much for a persistent Blazers side.

"The conditions were not favourable for attractive soccer today," said Town coach Andrew Bascome at the end of a game which started 15 minutes late. "This was typical FA Cup football. The passion was there, I think they (Boulevard) probably enjoyed more of the possession early, but it was just a matter of us hanging on and not letting them disorganise us."

After Darron (Duke) Simons just failed to connect with Janeiro Tucker's firm, incisive cross after evading a desperate challenge from Leroy Stevens out on the right-side, Boulevard immediately responded with Michael Parsons causing anxiety in the heart of the Town defence. The player watched his effort go wide of the upright with 'keeper Jason Smith all but a spectator.

Boulevard's fortunes would drastically change for the worse in the 15th minute when veteran defender Albert Caisey succumbed to injury and they then went a goal down.

Tucker, without support deep in Boulevard territory, instinctively shielded the ball from Robert Wilson. However, in the youngster's desperate attempt to dispossess Tucker he was blown for a foul. Devon Binns stepped up to fire in a hard shot that Shejuan Swan in the Blazers' goal failed to hold and Tuzo casually accepted the gift.

Boulevard, with Tekeyhi Walker, Gregory Johnson and Melchisedec Gibbons working in tandem up front, refused to waver and almost received just reward for their creativity moments before the half, prompting Smith to rush off his line and intercept Walker's dangerous cross while Johnson and Gibbons waited at the far post.

Whatever Boulevard coach John Rebello had to say to his team during the break apparently had immediate effect as they began the second period in a flurry.

However, they were to be thwarted once again by Smith, who on this occasion was to deny Parsons with an acrobatic save.

Walker was at it again moments later after finding himself in possession of the ball just outside the box, but instead of taking on Smith, he hastily opted to lob the keeper, his effort soaring high and wide.

Tuzo extended Town's lead in the 70 minute after Tucker supplied him with a deft, short pass, the player rifling home.

Rocked, Blazers introduced Ricky Saltus and Davon Cox into the fray in a bid to get back into the game.

But it only got worse as Tucker was finally rewarded for his perseverance with a late strike to close out the proceedings.
