Trott takes technical chair in BFA shuffle

Somerset Cricket Club executive Mark Trott is Bermuda Football Association?s (BFA) new technical committee chairman.

Trott, 45, was appointed to the top position earlier this week after president Larry Mussenden shuffled his executive.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority senior analyst succeeds Jon Beard who had held the technical post since Robert Calderon resigned in 2002.

For Trott, this will be his second coming as he previously chaired the BFA?s technical committee under the presidency of Donald (Dick) Dane.

And he intends to hit the ground running.

?The BFA has a strategic plan that encompasses the technical side of the game. We are looking to get a technical director, a youth development officer and getting all of our national teams up and running,? Trott explained.

The former senior national coach also hopes to see various staff coaches put into strategic jobs and have funding in place to finance the association?s short and long term objectives.

?I think first and foremost it?s important to have the funding in place to allow these things to happen. And overall the whole idea is to try and get our football running properly and efficiently at all levels from the grassroots right along to the top,? Trott added.

?And I think this will be a good challenge for me, and one that I am looking forward to.?

Educator Beard stood down as technical chairman and moved over to assist the association?s youth committee.

Newly-elected first vice-president Cal Blankendal ? who departs for New York along with BFA general secretary David Sabir on Monday to attend football workshops ? retained his position as youth committee chairman.

BFA second vice-president Gregory Grimes also retained his portfolio as women?s committee chairman along with Andrew Griffith who retained his post as chairman of finance.

President Mussenden still heads the association?s fund-raising and marketing committees, while Charles Clarke retained his position as chairman of league and cup competitions.

Fireman Troy Brimmer and Lloyd Smith will jointly chair the BFA?s safety and security committee previously managed by Lee Holder.

Holder has now been a appointed BFA referees committee chairman while Smith and Brimmer have also been put in charge of the association?s website and records.

Shaquita Parsons has been appointed chairman of education, BFA stalwart Fed (Pinks) Lewis chairman of equipment and gear, and Marc Bean chairman of club development.

First Division leaders Ireland Rangers and second-placed Devonshire Colts will lay their unbeaten streaks on the line against unpredictable Prospect United and St.George?s Colts in a double-header slated for Police Field tomorrow.

Both Rangers and Colts have proven unstoppable in three matches so far, and with every passing weekend look sure favourites to make speedy returns to the Premier Division.

Rangers, though, could be stretched against a Prospect outfit who could prove a tough proposition in their own backyard on a day which sees Premier Division football taking a back seat.

?We expect a physical encounter because Prospect do have strong players,? commented Rangers coach Duane (Box) DeRosa.

?But we are ready for them. And we are not going to take them lightly because Prospect can win matches ? and they have proven that before.?

Colts, meanwhile, could also be in for a long afternoon against a fifth-placed St.George?s side that have yet to really fire on all cylinders this season.

Wolves, the only other remaining undefeated team in the division, are favoured over winless Hamilton Parish at Lords.

Elsewhere, Southampton Rangers host Somerset Eagles at Southampton Oval in a match expected to be evenly contested. While at Garrison Field X Roads host Social Club in another match that could be decided by the odd goal.
