Umpire selection delayed
A Cup Match without umpires? Highly unlikely, but as of late yesterday the three officials for the big game had still not been selected.
A meeting, however, was scheduled for last night when it was expected that two umpires and a match referee would be chosen for the two-day event.
Leaving it to such a late hour, the clubs may have cost themselves extra cash as word from Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association was that the price was rising each day.
"They normally notify us two weeks in advance, but this year that hasn't been done, so guys are making plans to be with their families, and to break them will cost the clubs," said a unnamed source within the BCUA.
"It's crazy. I don't know why they've taken so long."
While in the past each club chose an umpire, recent times have seen the clubs come up with a short list from which the BCUA have selected three officials.
