Under-19s prepare for Cup
Bermuda's Under-19 cricketers begin their preparations for next year's World Cup qualifying tournament next week.
Bermuda Cricket Board of Control has called a meeting for squad members and this will take place at Warwick Workmen's Club on Monday, October 7 at 6 p.m.
The qualifying tournament takes place in July next year in Singapore with the Cup proper in 2004.
The Under-19 World Cup is a vital part of the ICC Development Programme and provides a vehicle for the best young cricketers in the world to parade their skills. Many of the future stars of the game experience their first true international exposure at the tournament and players such as Brian Lara have already burst onto the senior scene through the event.
Originally the tournament was organised on an occasional basis but since the commencement of the Development Programme it has become a biennial fixture.
In 1998 the event was held in South Africa while in 2000 Sri Lanka played host. The venue for the 2002 event was New Zealand.
The ten Full Member nations qualify automatically, along with Kenya in their special status as a One Day International country. The other five places are competed for by the Associate nations in regional events, with the winner of each going through to the World Cup.
Arnold Manders is Bermuda's Under-19 coach, while Andre Manders is manager and assistant coach.
