?We did nothing wrong? insists BVIFA official
?We did nothing wrong!?
That is the firm belief of the British Virgin Islands Football Association (BVIFA) over the Digicel Cup row that refuses to go away.
Mystery and controversy surrounded Bermuda?s survival in the competition following their exit at the hands of BVI after a 2-0 defeat on the final day of the November tournament in St. Vincent.
Bermuda Football Association requested information on player eligibility from the hosts and have since accused BVI and St. Vincent of turning a blind eye to the allegations and questioned the professionalism of the way the tournament was run.
They were also unhappy at how match commissioner Neville Ferguson handled their concerns.
But BVIFA general secretary Llewellyn Dasent said he was satisfied his association did nothing wrong and said ?he couldn?t believe? the BFA were making such a fuss.
?We have done nothing wrong, it is as simple as that,? he told .
?I can?t see what the problem is here.
?It seems strange for them to be making all this fuss because two of the players they are worrying about played against Bermuda when you beat us 5-1 and 9-0 in the World Cup qualifiers.
?Montgomery Butler is the ?keeper you put nine goals past ? we didn?t hear a protest then.?
Dasent admitted that Venton James, who scored both goals in the shock BVI win against Bermuda when Kyle Lightbourne?s men needed just a point to secure qualification, had played for St. Vincent in 1997, but ?not in a FIFA-sanctioned game?.
?We have been working hard to improve our team in recent years and we have done it all within the rules,? he continued.
?We made sure everything was in order before we entered the competition and I?m sure the match commissioner would have raised his concerns with us if there had been any doubt about player eligibility.
?From when we heard about this enquiry from Bermuda, we were convinced that we would be found to have done nothing wrong and that we would play our next round as originally scheduled.
?We are now looking forward to that game.?
