West Enders in grudge match

Interesting match-ups emerged from yesterday's FA Cup second round draw at BFA headquarters with Devonshire Cougars and Wolves paired off in the only all-Premier Division clash and Somerset Eagles drawn against Somerset Trojans in an intriguing west end derby.

That match will be a 2.30 kick-off at White Hill Field, a game new Trojans coach Mark Trott feels will generate plenty of interest among Eagles and Trojans fans.

A number of former Trojans are now playing with Eagles, making for what could be something of a grudge match.

"It's a good draw for both teams," said Trott moments after the draw. "Sometimes a draw like that brings out the best in teams.

"They (Eagles) have a good pool of players and I don't think any of the other Premier teams would take them lightly. They have a lot of players who have played in the Premier Division before. I think it will be a very good game."

Wolves, who were denied a second straight trip to the Martonmere Cup final by Devonshire Cougars in the semi-finals, now have the opportunity to avenge that loss in what, on paper, looks like the pick of the second round matches on December 2.

"We played them already and it was a tough game so we expect another tough game," said Cougars assistant coach Albert Smith.

"It would have been nice to get an easier team. We've had a pretty good start to the season, the players committed themselves early and it's paying dividends. Now it's just a matter of staying committed."

None of the four remaining Commercial teams were draw against each other, but they will relish the challenge of facing more high profile sides. Robin Hood, champions of the Commercial League, travel to White Hill field to meet FA Cup holders Devonshire Colts.

Prospect/Fire will play former cup winners Boulevard while St. David's face another Commercial team after being drawn against Tuff Dogs. St. David's were involved in the only replay of the 14 first round matches as BAA Wanderers gave them two tough games. MR Onions are at home to Premier Division strugglers St. George's at a venue still to be announced.

Ireland Rangers are drawn at home against Dandy Town while another First Division-Premier Division match-up sees Prospect hosting North Village at Police Field.

Full FA Cup second rounddraw: Devonshire Colts v Robin Hood, White Hill 12.30; Somerset Eagles v Somerset Trojans, White Hill 2.30; Prospect/Fire v Boulevard, Police Field 12.30; MR Onions v St. George's, venue TBA; St. David's v Tuff Dogs, St. David's 2.30; Ireland Rangers v Dandy Town, Malabar 2.30; Devonshire Cougars v Wolves, Devonshire Rec. 2.30; Prospect v North Village, Police Field 2.30.

lLeague action resumes this weekend after a two-week break, with three Premier Division matches on Sunday.

Champions Dandy Town, Somerset Trojans and St. George's are all looking for their first league win, but they won't have it easy against awkward opponents.

Town, who could only manage a tame 0-0 draw against Somerset in midweek, travel to White Hill to meet Devonshire Colts in what should be an interesting contest. Colts will be rusty after two weeks off because of a bye in the FA Cup first round.

Trojans will be hoping for a better performance at home when they welcome the visit of former captain Dennis Brown and his Wolves outfit. That match was put back from tonight.

Wolves looked a polished team in their 9-0 rout of Social Club in the FA Cup last weekend, though they can't expect a Somerset defence containing national team players Timmy Figureido, Karl Roberts and Andrew Rahman to have as many holes. The game has the making of an exciting contest, although Trojans will need to be much sharper in front of goal if they are to come away with maximum points.

North Village should add to the dismal start of the season by St. George's at Bernard Park and they will be hoping to have back some key players who were missing from last weekend's FA Cup match. Village are 2-0 for the season while St. George's are still without a point from two outings.

In the First Division, Ireland Rangers host promotion favourites Boulevard in the pick of the schedule at Malabar Field. Southampton Rangers are away to Hamilton Parish at St. David's in another interesting clash.

Somerset Eagles will be looking for maximum points against Social Club at Bernard Park while Paget take on St. David's at White Hill in the other match.
