Why Kyle can make a real difference
Kyle Lightbourne?s appointment as national coach is the best decision Bermuda could have made.
I think he will make an excellent coach and whoever?s idea it was to appoint him deserves a lot of praise.
He is a great candidate for the job and brings with him a lot of experience from all the years he spent playing in England.
This is a guy who can take Bermuda football to levels it has never reached before. Kyle and I have spent years talking football together and we have talked about what we could do for the sport back home.
He isn?t just coming into this job on a whim, this is something he has thought hard about and I think he has the ideas and drive to make a real difference.
Somebody like Kyle will command natural respect from the players around him because of what he has achieved. He has great contacts in football and he is a real student of the game, he watches and learns a lot but because he has been there that gives him a lot even though he hasn?t coached before.
He has also kept in closer contact with the players in Bermuda than I have as he got involved with the national side before I made my return.
That will stand him in good stead because he has played with these guys so recently, so he knows their strengths and weaknesses on the field but also knows what they are like off the field.
It?s not like he is coming in cold ? he knows who the jokers are and who the quiet ones are and he knows the banter and the dressing room atmosphere ? it is those sort of things that will help him get the most out of the players.
I think the BFA are getting a bargain. Because of all the experience he has, he is going to be as good as a First or Second Division coach in England and I know what these guys earn and I know what money was going in Gary Darrell?s time ? the BFA have got themselves a real steal.
Obviously we don?t know what is going on with this Caribbean Cup thing but if it is on ? I will be there.
I want to keep playing for Bermuda and ? if selected ? I would be more than happy to come and play for Kyle?s side in this competition. Like I said, I think he will be a great motivator and he will really be able to squeeze everything out of this talented team and take them somewhere.
When you look back in two years? time, I think people are going to say ?what an appointment?.
On other note, back at Reading, it?s frustrating being on the bench but I can?t complain too much because we are sitting in second place in the league.
Trust me, it is a lot worse when you are out of the side and they are losing every week. There is a great spirit around the club because of the start we?ve had and everyone is being very positive about the season.
On a personal level, of course, I would rather be playing but I just have to play my part and wait for the opportunities. Everyone has to be a squad player and make the most of all the game time they get, whether it is a few minutes as substitute or a rare start.
The boss has said he is thinking of making a few changes for tonight?s League Cup game against Watford, so I am hoping I might get another start.
If I do I will obviously try and get on the scoresheeet. I am pretty sure that whatever I do, I am not going to get back in the side for the league game on Saturday, but if I can put in a good performance than at least the boss will see that I have always performed when given a chance.
I scored in the last Cup game he let me start and I just have to keep playing and waiting for my chance.
Even if I only get a run in the side in the last ten games of the season, every match is vital in the campaign and everyone has to play their part so I will do what is asked of me.
