Women in sport report published

A report to promote women?s participation in sport has been published by the Sports Ministry, including an eight-point plan of recommendations.

At the 2002 Annual Sports Conference, then Sports Minister Randy Horton appointed a Women in Sport Committee who reported back last week.

The committee, consisting of seven female members, have produced recommendations in the areas of promotion, leadership development, participation development, elite level participation, education, research, sports facilities and funding.

The report points out the importance of improving women?s participation in sport for social and health reasons as well as trying to create a higher profile for female athletes to create better role models.

See tomorrow?s for detailed analysis of its findings and profiles of leading females in Bermuda sport.
