World Cup winning ?keeper on Island holiday
World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been enjoying Bermuda's beaches while making the most of a delay to the Serie A season.
With appeals still being heard into the punishments meted out to various leading Italian clubs following corruption scandals, Buffon has been lounging around at Elbow Beach, relaxing on the pink sand and keeping in shape with daily tennis sessions.
And the world's most expensive goalkeeper, who was questioned as part of the largest scandal in European football, is confident his club Juventus will begin the season in the top flight.
"I think we will start in the first division next year," said Buffon in broken English, following a tennis game with girlfriend and famous Czech model Alena Seredova and her teenage sister.
"I think we will stay there, there is no problem with that."
When asked if he was going to join the exodus from Juventus he was surprisingly honest.
"I think I will stay at Juventus, yes, I think so," continued the affable 28-year-old.
"There has been interest from Milan, I like Milan they like me, but I think I will stay at Juventus."
And when asked if he would consider playing outside Italy, he was also surprisingly forthcoming.
"No, no, I love Italy, I don't want to play anywhere else. Maybe (Real) Madrid, but no, not outside Italy, no Manchester United, no England for me."
Buffon, who is certainly a better goalkeeper than tennis player, was on the blue courts at Elbow every day of his brief trip here.
The stay, however, wasn't entirely without incident with the goalkeeper needing medical attention after getting sand in his eye on Wednesday night.
Buffon is not the first of the World Cup winning squad to visit the Island this summer. Fellow champion Alberto Gilardino was here last month, twice eating at Portofino on Bermudiana Road where he was mobbed by the passionate Italian waiters.
