Wright third in regatta
Bermudian Brett Wright finished third in the Laser Class at last weekend's Caribbean Championships.
Sailing in a fleet of 35 competitors on Orient Bay in St. Maarten, he was off to a heartening start to lead the regatta after three of seven races. But he couldn't hold on to the top position and then a disqualification in the penultimate race cost him the runner-up spot also.
"They had a strange format in that you race in the morning, then take a break and race in the afternoon again. When I went back out on Saturday afternoon I didn't do so well," said Wright who dropped to second after that session.
Antiguan Karl James won the Laser Class while Andre Martinie of the Dominican Republic was second.
"Myself and Andre tied on points but I lost because he won two races and I only won one. In the second last race I was disqualified for being over the line early and that cost me second place. Overall I feel quite good. It went very well," said Wright.
