Young cricketers drop out
Several key members of Bermuda?s Under 23 cricket squad have made themselves unavailable for the tour to Jamaica next week.
Bermuda Cricket Board?s chief executive Neil Speight confirmed late last night that Delyone Borden, OJ Pitcher, Stephen Outerbridge, Mackie Crane and Orande Bascombe have all decided not to travel.
Although they have informed the Board that they cannot go because of other work commitments and other engagements, it is understood that their availability for Cup Match may well have played a part in their decisions ? a move which chairmen of selectors Arnold Manders panned as a ?disgrace? in yesterday?s
Last night, however, he was reluctant to say much on the issue, stating only that he is ?disappointed? with the decision of Bermuda?s best under 23 cricketers not to make the trip.
?The Board laid on an opportunity for these young guys to advance, and they have declined to take the opportunity, which is obviously disheartening,? he said.
