A new youth basketball league is to start up in the autumn.

The Indian Summer Basketball Club, established in May this year, hopes to begin a 10-team, 10-week league in October, involving boys and girls aged between 10 and 14.

Games will be played at CedarBridge Academy gym on Saturdays between 4.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m.

The club hopes to attract 100 young players for the programme between October 6 and December 8, with the first session dedicated to an orientation, team draft and a workout session as a prelude to the league season.

Registration will take place at CedarBridge gym on Saturday, September 15 and Saturday, September 22, between 12 noon and 2 p.m. and will cost $70 per child.

Indian Summer Basketball Club vice-president Dane Commisiong said: "We want to help middle school aged basketball players develop certain skills that are currently only displayed by players at the junior high and senior high school level. We want to help speed up their skill development."

ISBC president Tom Johnson added the club's aims went beyond basketball.

"The programme will be 85 percent basketball and 15 percent personal growth coaching - and 100 percent fun," said Johnson.

Sponsors include the Bank of Butterfield, XL, HWP, ACE, Centre Solutions, BTC and Stockton Reinsurance.
