Youth cricketers shine in US
Bermuda's under-15 cricket team have got off to a roaring start in the 2002 Americas Regional Youth Tournament being played in Orlando, Florida.
In the first match on Saturday, the Island's youngsters scored a convincing 102-run victory over tournament hosts USA.
Bermuda scored 169 and dismissed their opponents for 67.
Allan Douglas led the batting for Bermuda with a brisk 43 while young Dwyia Blyden was the pick of the bowling with three wickets.
On Sunday, the Island improved to 2-0 with another comfortable 109-run win over Cayman Islands. Scores: Bermuda 190-9, Cayman Islands 81.
Temiko Wilson led Bermuda's batting with a superb 56,while Stephan Kelly (five for 28) tormented the Cayman's top order before Allan Douglas snapped up the tail with three wickets for 14 off 6.1 overs.
"We are pleased to be enjoying early success in this tournament," said Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president, Reggie Pearman.
"It is a testament to our continued focus on developing the grass roots of our game. However, it is important that the public realise that winning is not the only goal of this tournament."
Bermuda take on Canada today, an Americas Select tomorrow and Argentina on Thursday.
