A sparkling 78 by James Celestine could not help Bermuda avoid a second defeat by Denmark in successive days at Brondby yesterday.

The Danes romped home in the one-day friendly match by seven wickets after dismissing Bermuda for 176 off 48.1 overs.

Celestine's innings was the highlight of the Bermuda batting and his main support came from Lionel Cann (22), opener Stephen Outerbridge (21), Irving Romaine (17) and Jacobi Robinson (14).

The Island's hopes of victory were scuppered by a solid opening stand between top-scorer Fredrik Klokker, who carried his bat with an unbeaten 67, and Carsten Pedersen (40).

It was Irving Romaine (pictured) who made the breakthrough, trapping Pedersen lbw. That was the first of three quick wickets, as Romaine claimed his second scalp, Michael Pedersen, for three, caught by Dwayne Leverock. Ryan Steede then applied extra pressure to the home side by removing Max Overgaard, lbw, for nought.

Lars Hedegaard then joined Klokker at the wicket and the pair steered Denmark to victory with seven wickets to spare.

Romaine was the pick of the bowlers, taking two for 32 from 8.2 overs, while Steede took one for 46 from nine overs.

A Bermuda side weakened since the World Cup by retirements and the decision of several players not to travel to Europe, will today head for the Netherlands.

Their next match will be the Intercontinental Cup clash with the Netherlands on Monday.
