Devonshire Colts 3

A wonder-strike by Sean Perinchief helped Colts to a comfortable victory against a weary looking Boulevard in the Friendship Trophy.

Perinchief's screamer from distance edged Colts ahead of Blazers who had taken an early lead at Bernard Park through Melchisedec Gibbons.

Colts fought back through talisman Aljame Zuill who made amends for an earlier miss by heading home Sekia Waldron's superbly taken free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

The second-half saw Boulevard fade badly and it was no surprise when Perinchief doubled Colts' advantage. The attacking full-back rounded two men before cutting inside and unleashing a shot which cannoned in off the crossbar.

A strangely subdued Angelo Simmons was presented with an immediate chance by a Colts defence still celebrating, but the pacey striker hit his volley harmlessly wide.

A keeper error by Randy Broadbent saw Quincy Aberdeen's angled effort squirt into the net to hand Colts a two-goal cushion, which Blazers never really threatened.

Colts coach Ray Jones said his team's superior fitness levels were a key factor in their victory, but described their first-half showing as "disgusting".

"We started sluggish and slow and were fortunate to score right before half-time to even things out," he said. "I was disgusted with our first-half and we gave the players a talking to at the break.

"We knew Boulevard were tiring at the end of the first-half and I wanted us to up the tempo. We're pleased to still be in the Trophy and I was much happier with the second period. Our strikers were closer together and we used our width more."
