Dandy Town Roots keep up the pressure on MR Onions
With Commercial league table-toppers MR Onions gifted a default win on Saturday when Somerset Extros couldn't raise a side, attention shifted to second-placed Dandy Town Roots who eased pass Lobster 4-1.
Roots took an early lead when Philip Lawrence unleashed a fierce drive from 30 yards out that the keeper somehow let slip through his grasp.
Shortly after, Roots doubled their lead when Lloyd Christopher ghosted past his defender and laid the perfect pass for Kevin Hurdle to tap the ball home from close range.
Pot pulled one back just before half-time when swift passing on the right resulted in the ball being driven across the top of the box and the onrushing Shohaib Mehran fired home.
Roots increased their lead shortly after the restart when Darron Simons provided the perfect pass for Adam Outerbridge to drive in.
Simons was again in the thick of things as he worked a combination with Michael Wells scoring at the second attempt. Pot pressured Roots hard but were constantly denied by Roots' keeper and goal line clearances.
Robin Hood, who stuffed Valley 6-0, lie third. After 30 minutes of sparring, Hood opened the floodgates with a long range Teddy Terceira shot that the Valley keeper failed to hold.
David Outerbridge scored a far post header from a cleverly-worked corner routine that had Steven Simons delivering the perfect cross.
The Valley keeper redeemed himself shortly after with an unbelievable reaction save from a point blank thunderbolt from Derek Stapely who had been picked out by an accurate Gary Ray through ball.
Just before half time, Kenny Dill made it 3-0 and there was no way back for Valley in the second-half as a rampant Hood converted three more with Brian Fubler getting two and top scorer Steven Simons getting one.
Such was Hood's dominance, Fubler as well as David Outerbridge and substitute David Wolffe could have had hat-tricks if they had taken their chances.
North Village edged a keenly-fought encounter against BAA. Village started the brighter and it was no surprise when after ten minutes Damon Wade beat the BAA offside trap and raced through to finish well.
Wanderers recovered from this early setback to gain control of the midfield, however despite looking dangerous from set pieces, never really threatened the Village goal.
The second half saw BAA dominant with Martin Jones causing mayhem down the right, but despite creating several good chances BAA could not get back on level terms.
And with 15 minutes left, North Village doubled their lead when, against the run of play, Calvin Dale scored a superb goal with an unstoppable half volley from 35 yards which effectively wrapped up the points for the Rams.
A Roy Stevens penalty helped fifth-placed Key West Rangers to a 1-1 draw with Tuff Dogs.

Dockyard Falcons racked up a 3-0 lead away to MR Onions Real Men with excellent finishes from Dwayne DeRosa, Sean Symons and Terry Rodgers but Onions, who had been as wasteful as Falcons had been clinical, finally found their range in the dying minutes and carved out a draw with two strikes from Andy Robinson and one from Roland Meadows.
