First Division title race to go down to the wire
The First Division championship will go right down to the wire with Devonshire Rec. and Police Recreation Club on equal points at the top of the table as both clubs enter the concluding weekend of the season.
Should both outfits win then promotion to the Premier Division would beckon, with Devonshire Rec taking the title, having beaten Police RC twice in the league already this season.
Devonshire Rec. take on PHC at White Hill, while Police RC travel to Somerset Bridge. Third-placed Leg Trappers, just a point below, play Willow Cuts at Somerset.
Devonshire Rec. have been awarded the points from last month's fixture at Leg Trappers at Sea Breeze Oval, which was called off after the pitch had not been prepared by Bailey's Bay on behalf of the home team, the Bermuda Cricket Board announced yesterday.
Under the regulations for 2007 one-day playing conditions, section 10 states: "In the event of the pitch not been prepared the umpire must verify in writing and the visiting team may, at the discretion of the BCB, be awarded maximum points (2)."
A BCB spokesman added: "The umpires' report from the game confirmed the pitch had not been prepared and a claim from Devonshire RC for the points for the game, in accordance with the regulations, were received by the Board.
"Following previous precedent, where a tenant club is held to the same standard as a field operator when the game is their home fixture, the BCB awarded the points to Devonshire RC."
