Hartnett and McCall lift Founder's Trophy
After four days of differing conditions at the annual Founder's Trophy tournament at Mid Ocean Club, Charlie Hartnett and Bill McCall yesterday secured a comfortable victory, winning by six shots over runners-up Leon Nearon and Don Brown in the net division.
Alex Lauchlan and Michael Kane placed third a further two shots back.
Rounding out the top placings were James Stewart and Dudley Roski in fourth and Patrick Fischoeder and Michael de la Hunty in fifth.
The winning score was 22-under-par.
Hartnett and McCall are no strangers to the winners' circle at the Founder's, having first won the event in 1985 and triumphed again in 1989 and 1990.
In the gross division, Michael Dunkley and Ralph Ghiotto took top spot with a final score of five-over-par, six shots better than runners-up Ricky Cox and John Pickett.
Paul Evans and Thomas Mahony finished a further shot back in third.
In fourth place were the team of Nick Warren and Martyn Warren with club captain David Ezekiel and Michael Darling in fifth place.
It was Ghiotto's first win in the event, with Dunkley having won on three previous occasions.
Next week Mid Ocean Club will host the annual Amateur Match Play Championships for men and women, with the medal round scheduled for Tuesday.
