Mountain biking
There were no surprises in the Winners Edge Bermuda National Mountain Biking Championships with perennial favourites Garth Thomson and Kim McMullen claiming the honours, writes Stephen Wright
Although Thomson crashed at the first turn of the damp and muddy Ferry Reach Park course, he quickly remounted to finish ahead of Neil de Ste Croix and Mark Hatherley.
De Ste Croix suffered his own difficulties at the start of last Sunday's competition when his bike frame broke, forcing him to borrow another from a junior competitor who had already finished racing.
McMullen was again the sole competitor in the women's Open category and set her own pre-race goal of staying ahead of the Intermediate men's group.
In the other categories, Jeff Amaral won the Intermediate men's group, Maryellen Goodwin picked up the Intermediate women's category trophy, Scott Mello beat Riaan Naude for the men's Novice title and Sarah Bonnett won the women's Novice group.
The junior titles were won by Alex Godfrey, Izabella Arnold, Brighton Swan, Gabriella Arnold, Daniel Oatley, Jessie Godfrey and Ryan Day.
The Bermuda Bicycle Association will be holding its first Cycling For All groups ride at Southside in St. David's on Sunday at 9 a.m. The event does not require BBA membership.
