Rams eye double
Commercial league leaders North Village Rams have their eyes firmly set on the double after dumping B division challengers Valley out of the Commercial Cup on Saturday.
Village romped to a 6-2 victory with two goals from Kevin Jennings and singles from Tillman Darrell, Stephen Coddington, Cal Dill junior and Quinell Robinson while Michael Roberts and Oscar Riley were on target for Valley.
Southampton Oval saw two lower league hopefuls put to the sword at the quarter-final stage.
Division B's Somerset Extros put up a plucky fight against reigning Commercial champs Key West Rangers but were sunk by an early Sergio Griffin strike and a second-half own goal by Omar Amory.
Next up were C Division leaders MR Onions Real Men who held A Division's Robin Hood to 1-1 at half-time. Mark Ray smashed home a loose ball for the Hood but Kal Brosseau poked home to equalise.
A comedy bounce over the Onions 'keeper in the first minute of the second half put Hood captain Gary Ray on the score-sheet and then the floodgates open.
Mark Ray got a second, Kenny Dill nabbed two and Declan Coute piled in for Hood — who managed to score three times after having Dave Wolffe sent off for a second yellow after a clumsy tackle.
Lobster Pot eased past Tuff Dogs to reach the semi-finals.
Early dominance led to a handball and Martin Godley dispatched the penalty. However, Dogs' Carlos Lopes levelled from the spot after a forward was pushed over.
Pot bounced back with a fine goal by Godley who was found unmarked in the area and netted Pot's winner with clinical right-footed finish.
Meanwhile in league make-up games, Dandy Town Roots defeated MR Onions 2-1 at St. John's Field on Saturday.
In blustery conditions, the pace of the Roots frontline caused trouble for Onions and Roots finally took the lead when quick passing in the Onions half resulted in Lorenzo Simons being sent through on goal to score from close range.
Roots doubled their advantage when Darron Simons ghosted past a few Onion defenders on the left flank before picking out Adam Outerbridge to head home.
Onions were denied by Roots 'keeper Lloyd Christopher, who tipped a goal-bound header over the top.
Onions began the second half with more purpose and Naill Baillie drilled a shot into the top corner with Roots' 'keeper given no chance.
Onions had a string of near misses but Roots held on to move up to third.
In the B division, Somerset Bridge beat Prospect/Fire 4-1 away. Lloyd Telford grabbed two first-half goals while Kirk Simons and Ronald Richards also netted. Peter Charlenghne got the consolation for the home side.
