Trojans' last hope of silverware requires victory over Zebras
Tomorrow's Friendship Trophy encounter at Devonshire Recreation Club will present defending champions Somerset Trojans one last chance to salvage some silverware from a season that has seen the West Enders rapidly descend from grace.
Trojans walked off with Dudley Eve and Friendship Trophy honours last season to signal their return as a dominant force on the local front.
But so far this campaign Dennis Brown's charges have been mediocre at best and will have to raise their game considerably if they are to have any success over high-flying PHC Zebras tomorrow at the Den.
Zebras thrashed Trojans 7-0 in the previous encounter between the two clubs and as such will enter this weekend's cup clash as firm favorites.
However, cup competitions always seem to bring the best out of teams and, with the exception of Zebras, it may be interesting to note that no other club have thrived in the Friendship Trophy more than Trojans who have triumphantly raised the showpiece on nine occasions.
Meanwhile, other weekend Friendship match-ups have last year's beaten finalists Devonshire Cougars pitted against Ireland Rangers at BAA Field, while North Village square off against Dandy Town at Wellington Oval and Boulevard are poised to do battle with Devonshire Colts at Bernard Park.
In the First Division Shield, Social Club and Somerset Eagles will lock horns at the Den, St. David's come up against Wolves at BAA Field, Southampton Rangers take on St. George's Colts at Bernard Park while Prospect United have been pitted against Paget at Wellington Oval.
