Wolfe strike fires Town into cup final
It wasn't one for the purists but that won't worry Dandy Town who booked their place in the FA Cup final by beating Boulevard in last night's semi-final replay.
Hornets striker Heys Wolfe had the simplest task of tapping home after Blazers keeper Shejuan Swan spilled an angled shot from substitute Lashun Dill midway through the second half.
In truth there was little between the teams in what was an uneventful encounter at Somerset Cricket Club, but the introduction of Dill did at least provide some spark with the Bermuda international proving to be Hornets' catalyst for victory.
"It's a tactical thing I believe," said Dill, when quizzed about his current substitute status.
"I respect the coach's decision and he knows my pace can destroy defences when I come on.
"I thought I did my job on Sunday (against Boulevard) and I did my job again tonight. Hopefully I'll start in the FA Cup final."
The pacey winger out muscled two defenders and then showed them a clean set of heals along the by-line, before firing in a shot that was too hot for Swan to handle, with Wolfe finishing from close range.
Boulevard, last season's FA Cup runners-up, forced Dandy Town into some desperate late defending but were unable to breach goalkeeper Kejan Sampson's goal.
Hornets midfielder Michael Parsons admitted his team-mates' overriding emotion following their scrappy win was one of relief.
"We knew we were going to have to be patient against Boulevard," said the national team player.
"We kept to our slow build up game and the chance eventually came for us. Lashun (Dill) has the pace to hurt teams as he showed tonight."
Caretaker coach Scott Morton will now lead his team out against favourites PHC in the FA Cup final at the National Sports Centre on –April 20.
