'A good day' - Romaine

Skipper Irving Romaine believes Saturday’s victory over Uganda was a fair indication of how far Bermuda have progressed since qualifying for the World Cup in the summer of 2005.

The teams’ last encounter was at the ICC Trophy in Ireland that year when their group match was rained out without a ball being bowled. But Romaine recalled: “At that time, we were pretty much compared to Uganda’s level. They would have given themselves a good chance of beating us. They’re not a bad side.

“So this victory, I think, shows the big improvement we’ve made. The win, said the captain, would give all of the players a lot of confidence going into today’s match against Kenya, who inflicted a 3-0 one-day whitewash over Bermuda in Mombasa a couple of months ago.

“It’s very pleasing to win,” he added. “We did well in the field, we started off batting well, we had a little collapse in the middle, but other than that I think we performed well. It’s given us some confidence. We all think we can beat Kenya this time.

“We beat Uganda today and we left out Clay (Smith), Dean (Minors), Sluggo (Dwayne Leverock) and Kevin (Hurdle), and that’s sort of the heart of the team, and we still played well.

“Personally, I’m happy. I got over 50, which was pleasing, but unluckily I got run out when I thought I could have had a big score. But I felt pretty good out there. All in all it was a good day.”
