Andrews in hospital after Bermuda win
Bermuda recovered from the shock of seeing Harry Andrews suffer an horrific injury to get their 2011 Rugby World Cup qualifying off to a winning start in the Cayman Islands.
Andrews underwent an operation last night after breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle during his side's 29-13 win over the Bahamas. In scenes reminiscent of the injury suffered by Eduardo, the Arsenal footballer, Andrews was hurt during a breakdown in the middle of the pitch.
Although shaken, his team-mates recovered sufficiently to win their first game in this season's Caribbean Championships.
Tries from Mike Kane, Pete Dunkerley, Jack Ellison and Chris Naylor were enough to see off a spirited but indisciplined Bahamas side, who played much of the game with 14 men after they had a player sent off for punching Bermuda hooker Thomas Greenslade.
"The lads did really well to recover after the injury," said Lawrence Bird, the Bermuda coach. "I was really pleased with the way we recovered, and several of our tries game directly from the training ground.
"We have got the smallest squad in terms of numbers of any team here, so we'll take it easy tomorrow and then get ready to face Guyana on Wednesday."
Guyana will face Bermuda after they beat Jamaica 10-3, while in the day's other game Trinidad and Tobago ran out easy winners, 39-12, against the Cayman Islands.
