Trott stripped of top BFA post
Mark Trott has been stripped of his duties as Bermuda Football Association (BFA) technical committee chairman at the height of the Island's World Cup campaign.
The long -serving BFA executive became the main target over the weekend of president Larry Mussenden's "cabinet shuffle" and his immediate future at the BFA remained unclear yesterday.
"Sometimes things like this have to be done. It's like a cabinet shuffle," a well-placed BFA source told The Royal Gazette.
"The president has decided he wants to go in another direction for the betterment of the sport - and that's exactly what we aim to achieve."
BFA president Mussenden confirmed Trott had been "relieved" of his duties as technical committee chairman. But he refused to speak at length over a matter that has forced his executive to make drastic changes amid a World Cup campaign that hasn't gotten off to the best of starts following a 1-1 draw at home to the Cayman Islands.
"I can tell you that Mr.Trott is no longer chairman of the technical committee and that is all I am prepared to comment at this moment," Mussenden said.
Mussenden also made it clear that it was his, and not his executive, that made the tough decision to strip Trott of the top position.
"It was not an executive decision but a decision made by the president," he said.
Asked who could be a suitable replacement, Mussenden replied: "We will not comment on that subject at this particular point in time, but will do so in due course."
Trott was even less forthcoming when asked to divulge reasons for his shock and sudden dismissal as technical committee boss.
"Right now I have no comment to make," he said.
Only last week the BFA's technical committee met to address a growing number of concerns that have surfaced in the aftermath of Bermuda's disappointing draw against Cayman Islands.
It is anticipated BFA officials will announce Trott's succesor in the near future.
