Under-13s lose out to Barbados

Bermuda Under-13s were no match for defending champions Barbados who skittled them out for a paltry 45 runs in the Regional Invitational Cricket Festival in St. Kitts.

The colts entered the match on the crest of a wave following two morale-boosting wins against Anguilla and Antigua, after losing to Dominica and Trinidad in their opening fixtures.

But a dismal batting display saw Bermuda's batsmen last just over an hour at the crease with Barbados running through them in 14.4 overs at Molyneaux yesterday.

Bizarrely, the match was delayed due to the Barbados manager objecting to Bermudian umpire Eugene Bassett officiating the game, forcing Mr. Bassett to oversee another tournament match.

Jonte Smith's dismissal with the first delivery of the game seemed to set the tone with Tre Manders and Joshua Gilbert also out cheaply, leaving Bermuda on 13 for three.

Only Lateef Trott, 13, and Shea Pitcher, 11, offered any resistance with Barbados' Darnel Greenidge taking three for 13 and Jermaine Bullen with three wickets for ten.

But Bermuda showed some mettle in the field and had Barbados in a spot of trouble, taking four quick wickets through Jonte and Naquan Smith. Had they held two dropped catches and bowled less wide balls then it could have a tighter encounter.
