Bermuda Under-19s have opened up their World Cup qualifying campaign by securing the scalp of Bahamas and take on the Cayman Islands in Toronto today knowing only victory will suffice.

The colts must win all four ICC Americas qualifying games to guarantee a place at next year's showpiece in Malaysia with only one country progressing and despite their convicing win over competition debutants Bahamas, coach Andre Manders refused to be overly satisfied.

"We have made the perfect start to our qualifying campaign and I was pleased with our overall performance, although there are still plenty of things for us to work on," he warned.

"Our early order batting could have been better and that's one area we need to improve upon if we are to achieve our qualifying brief - we can't afford any slip-ups.

"It's the first time Bahamas have competeted in this competition and to be honest I was very impressed with them. They had us in trouble at 140-7 and thankfully Dennico Hollis and our lower order batting saw us through a stickly spell.

"They made a pretty good start with the bat and were 90-2 at one stage but our spinners then came on and mopped their remaining batters up - Tamuri Tucker bowled terrific."

Spin-kings Tucker, who claimed a six wicket haul for just nine-runs, and skipper Rodney Trott, 2-14, did the damage while Dennico Hollis was the chief tormentor with the bat scoring 76 not out. Hollis enjoyed a 62-run partnership with Kyle Hodsoll, 18, before fellow tail-ender Greg Maybury chipped in with 17 not out.

The Cayman Islands also truimphed with victory over Argentina yesterday and Manders is predicting a tougher encounter. Bermuda's only slight injury worry is starlet Malachi Jones who is still nursing a groin injury picked up prior to the tour. Due to rain forcasts Bermuda's game with Argentina has been brought forward from Thursday to Wednesday, before their potential crunch clash against hotly-tipped Canada on Saturday. All tour matches will be held at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City, Ontario.

At last month's Sir Garfield Sobers International tournament in Barbados, the Under-19s finished with six wins and four losses as joint runners-up in Zone A with Trinidad's Queen's Park Club.
