Wilson is becoming a teenage sensation

Motorcycle racer Toriano Wilson

Bermuda's fast-improving motorcycle racer Toriano Wilson produced yet another splendid performance earlier this week during the Red Bull AMA US Rookies Cup testing, claiming the quickest time of the day at the Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama.

Wilson, still only 14 years-old, turned in a time of 1:36.982 in the afternoon session to lead the way on the first of a two-day test.

Second fastest was 13 year-old Hayden Gillim of Owensboro, Kentucky, with a time of 1:37.024, followed by Joey Pascarella of Vacaville, California with a time of 1:37.040.

A quick lap during the first testing session was in the range of 1:42 to 1:45, compared with best times of around 1:34 previously recorded at a simulated race at the same track.

Wilson was also the quickest rider at each of the two previous Rookies Cup preseason tests, and has once again put the Bermuda flag on top of the timesheets.

"I'm speechless!" said Wilson at the end of the day. "I thought one of the riders might have set a quicker time than me but I was glad to be on top once again.

"I had to push to set the quickest time, but then I wanted to save my bike for tomorrow, so I eased off at the very end.

"I can't wait to come back and try again."

The day's activities included a practice session and a 30-minute simulated qualifying session.

The morning weather was reasonably cool in the Birmingham area and testing began on schedule, although rain fell on the track during the first practice.

No rookies were seriously injured from any of the falls they incurred in the difficult conditions experienced in the 30-minute morning session.

The 23 rookies will race this weekend in their first event of the year alongside the AMA Superbike series at the same track
