Young golfer Daniels beaten in play-off

Bermudian golfer Terence Daniels shot a final round 73 to place second overall and help his university to also finish second at the recent PacWest Championships at Turtle Bay Resort's Palmer Course in Kahuku, Hawaii.

Daniels school, Grand Canyon University, entered the final round of play with a three-stroke lead before eventually falling off the pace to finish six strokes behind winners, the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Daniels was tied with Hilo's Zaddy Ari on top of the leaderboard at the end of the final round, but then lost in a play-off for first place.

The Bermuda player recorded a 54-hole total of 222. His team-mate, Bentley Nakasawa, recorded 73 in the final round to place third.

"Terence did a solid job, especially in the last two rounds. He was just unlucky in the play-off," said his coach, Keith Baker.

"Somebody should've shot under par, but nobody could get it going. It was a pretty georgeous day. The conditions were good."

Other Grand Canyon golfers included Donald Zaruba III, who tied for fourth, Brett Beaty who tied for 15th, and Ryan Sperry who placed tied for 21st.
