A chance too good to miss
offer which Crewe Alexandra has recently extended to him.
School teacher Gwyn Williams, who was responsible for arranging the recent successful two-month trial which Adams had in England with the Fourth Division club, said that the 19-year-old would still have an opportunity to earn a scholarship if things didn't work out for him professionally.
"I really think Streaker should grab the opportunity with both hands and make the move as soon as a work permit comes through,'' said Williams. "One doesn't get many chances to play professional, and since it is something he really wants to do then he should go ahead.'' Williams, who has worked with the goalkeeper regularly while assisting national team manager Gary Darrell at training sessions, seemed surprised to learn that Adams was undecided about whether he should accept a two-month extended trial with the club.
The two had a chance to chat following Adams' return from England at the weekend and Williams got the impression that the goalkeeper was leaning towards returning to Crewe.
However, Adams has since revealed that he has been tempted by a scholarship with Liberty University of Lynchburg, Virginia. Everything now rests on whether Crewe can offer him an extended contract.
Williams said that it should be understood that a scholarship would not be put in jeopardy if Adams went back to Crewe. "If Streaker accepts the two-month extension he wouldn't lose eligibility for college,'' he said.
Williams appears to have some reservations about Liberty University anyway, pointing out that their coach had vowed to see Streaker in action when Bermuda played the United States' Olympic team at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, in June but that he didn't even bother to show up for the game.
"I have other contacts as far as colleges are concerned, with several possible scholarships in the pipeline. I think Streaker should go ahead and join Crewe for the time being. There are provisions being made so that he doesn't put all of his eggs into one basket,'' said Williams.
"He's proven he has the ability to play at a much higher level and one doesn't often get a good opportunity like the one he has before him.'' Williams also said that one big advantage Streaker had of making it as a professional was the fact that Crewe's only goalkeeper was currently on the transfer list.
"Because of this Streaker can arrive there and become their number one goalkeeper in a matter of weeks,'' he said.
Adams was in England for trials from July 11 to August 7 and during his stay played in three practice matches against Gisley, Bristol City and Bradford City.
