Barbados put heat on Rangers
Barbados deservedly defeated a lacklustre Glasgow Rangers side in last night's first game in the International Youth Tournament.
The Scots, after a promising start, struggled to deal with the oppressive heat and it was no surprise when the strong-looking Barbadians grabbed a 16th minute lead through Riviere Williams.
The nippy striker took advantage of a poor defensive header to slip the ball past advancing goalkeeper Graeme Smith.
Rangers replied on the half hour when the promising Iain Russell appeared to run straight into defender Julian Ramsey. But referee Anthony Mouchette ruled it was a foul and pointed to the spot.
Russell slotted the ball to keeper Corey Spencer-Lane's right for the equaliser.
Jeffrey Williams put Barbados back in front four minutes before the interval when his shot twice seemed to ricochet off Rangers keeper Graeme Smith before rolling onto the post and leaving him with a simple tap in.
Darryl Duffy got clear of the Barbados rearguard to volley home superbly Richard Robb's long ball to again put Rangers on level terms in the 74th minute.
But Riviere Williams, who had just been denied by Smith when put clear, again wriggled free seven minutes from time to round the Scots' keeper and clinch the points for Barbados.
