Bay rocked by Basden century

Willow Cuts 304-5 Just a day after making his Eastern Counties debut for the champions, Willow Cuts captain Dexter Basden returned to Sea Breeze Oval to punish Bay with a blazing century.

Bay, tied for last place in the Overs Competition with just one win in five previous matches, suffered the ultimate embarrassment when they failed to defend 300 runs at home.

Cuts would have only been allowed to bat 46 overs after being penalised four overs from their innings for slow bowling. But it was Bay who felt the backlash of that decision as Cuts scored their runs in just 40 overs with Basden leading the way with an unbeaten 126 as a total of 607 runs came in one day.

Basden's ton, which included 13 fours and six sixes, even outshone Glenn Blakeney's 111 off 66 balls earlier in the day as Bay piled up a massive total.

Blakeney added 126 for the third wicket with his captain Charlie Marshall (130) as they carried the score from 71 to 197 after opener Coolridge Durham scored 35.

Irving Romaine (62 not out) and Noel Gibbons (31) tortured Cuts further late in the innings.

Brian Gibbons claimed four of the six wickets but gave up 82 runs in just eight overs.

Cuts' success was also built around a third wicket stand, this one adding 104 between opener Jermaine Warner and his captain Basden. Warner contributed 82 from 11 fours and two sixes. Gladwin Edness scored 32 after Warner's departure to keep Cuts on course for victory.

Devonshire 243-3 Cleveland 153 Lone umpire Wilton Woolridge walked off just a half hour into this match at Wellington Oval, frustrated over an incident when he turned down an appeal by Cleveland for a catch at slip against Lloyd Morrison.

Woolridge departed an over later, informing the captains he was walking off and leaving two volunteers to finish the match which Devonshire won by 90 runs.

Dexter Smith and Anthony Amory, who added 182 for the second wicket, both finished in the 90s for Devonshire, Smith scoring 97 before falling lbw on a reverse sweep while Amory hit 93.

Cleveland could only manage 153 in reply, with Curtis Jackson scoring 34, Courtney Trott 26 and Allan Douglas 23. Amory took four for 50, Leon Place two for 28 and Dexter Smith two for 11 for Devonshire.
